Whenever I eat there I shake my head and grunt in disbelief because I can’t believe how good it is. Fricska food makes me smile, it makes me happy.
It’s hard for me to express how much I love this place. Have you ever loved someone so much that you are at a loss of words to describe your feelings to them? Well… that’s how I feel about this Fricska. I wish there was some sort of method to transfer feelings because I would love to let the chefs and all the staff know just how much I enjoy eating there and how much I appreciate their food. I’m a huge stickler about consistency (as in upholding a quality standard time after time) and this place has it in spades. I really am not exaggerating when I say I have eaten the chef duos cooking close to two hundred times, in 5 different restaurants. This place is finally theirs so I don’t think they’ll be moving any time soon. The menu changes quite often as well so to keep up the quality is even more amazing. In any case, consistency. Out of all the times I’ve eaten their food, there was one soup that was too salty. That was over 3 years ago. That is fucking amazing! I’ve been to many restaurants where the food was good in the beginning but slipped over time. Not here. I’m a 100% sure that Fricska is the best value for money in Hungary and also one of the best restaurants in the country! Period!
The first time I came here was with Yuzu. I remember that we just finished the amuse bouche and he asked me if I want to become a regular here with him. I blinked a few times and his eyes were sparkling as he was looking at me, so I said yes. Of course, I had a super quick conversation in my head before the answer, like:
– Really? Before the appetizer? And the main course?
– Hey, perish that thought. He is just as picky as you are.
– Okay, okay, not like I could say no. Why is he looking at me like this? Why the fuck I can not stop this teenage girl shyness thing?
– Just say yes, go with your hunch.
(It kinda reminds me of the night he asked me to be his girlfriend. On the same night. I said yes again. And I was sooooo damn right both times.)
Since that day, I love this place. I am not easy to impress and I always need to feel that a place has a soul. I eat things here I would never ever consider ordering at other restaurants. Fricska has it all: amazing food, great people, and the chemical X (that’s a Powerpuff Girls reference in case you missed it). You can see and feel the creativity, the enthusiasm and the quality that makes this place feel a bit like home. They also have great prices and my only heartache is that I can’t make a perfect picture of the food. Nothing can give back the feeling enough.
They serve lunch and dinner here. You can order from the chalkboard that changes quite often. And the chocolate souffle is something to die for. Just sayin’… 🙂
